ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

Ducksberry is an existing property built in the mid 1930s, one of only a handful in this unique and extremely sensitive setting along the rugged North Devon coastline. The site lies in an enviable position with breathtaking coastal and sea views.

R A Rowe Architects were tasked, in conjunction with our clients, to prepare designs and concepts to extend, restore and modernise this amazing home. Extensive works and careful negotiation were required with the planning team and consultees throughout the process, including extensive discussion with Historic England. In essence the works proposed in planning terms were straightforward, with a new kitchen and dining space and improvements to the external appearance of the property, together with redesigning the access to the second floor to make the space accessible and capture the superb views to the sea. In reality this required careful thought and management of the planning process which together we oversaw to a favourable decision.

Detailed construction drawings were prepared and necessary consents obtained prior to site works commencing. The wider construction phase was managed by our clients and the results are truly spectacular! From the new replacement windows, the corner glazing, the beautiful kitchen and dining extension and the sympathetic sized rag slate roof covering all add up to create a home which is of significant improvement to the owners and future occupiers, as well as visually in proximity and the wider setting.

We are incredibly proud to have guided our clients through every stage of the project, helping them create what is truly a dream home in one of the county’s most stunning locations.
