ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

The farm house at High Hall is a Grade II* listed C17 dwelling and is a stunning example of traditional design and architecture, nestled in a rural location in North Cornwall.

The dwelling was in need of a number of repairs namely to the historic roof covering together with isolated repairs to traditional timber windows and the prominent slate hanging facade to the south elevation of the building.

The roof covering was carefully stripped with existing random size rag slates being set aside for re-use where practical to do so, any shortfalls were carefully matched in with Delabole rag slates to match the existing.

The scheme also entailed the need to retain and preserve the traditional and historic roof trusses, which are of considerable age and believed to be original.

R A Rowe were appointed to prepare the necessary drawings and documentation including details to present to the local authority for the repair of the significant heritage asset. Our role included liaison and appointment with historic structural engineers as well as natural England and conservation specialists to ensure the scheme was delivered in a sympathetic manner.
